The Tánaiste and Minister for Health, Mary Harney, has said the tender process for the long awaited completion of Phase 2B in the Longford Westmeath General Hospital will be advertised within the next six weeks.
Ms Harney was responding to criticism of a decision by her department to carry out an audit on the next stage of the construction - a move which medical staff at the hospital claim could further delay the project.
Phase 2B of the hospital in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, is a four storey building which was constructed in 1997 but never fitted out nor staffed because of a lack of funding.
