The Dundalk Western Bypass temporarily opened to traffic this morning, four months ahead of schedule.

The move is to accommodate GAA fans travelling from Northern Ireland to Dublin for today's All-Ireland football finals.

The new 11km stretch of road will remain open until after midnight tonight to accommodate their return trip.

The official opening of the bypass, which is part of the M1 motorway, takes place tomorrow.
