The Tánaiste and Minister for Health, Mary Harney, has said the report into the death of a 60-year-old disabled man after he was admitted to the Leas Cross Nursing Home will be published by the end of October.
Mrs Harney has promised the family of Peter Mc Kenna that they will have the full report and that any actions arising from it will be taken.
The family described as positive their meeting this evening with the minister.
Earlier today, it emerged that the report by the Health Service Executive revealed that doctors at the Leas Cross home in Dublin raised doubts about their ability to care for Mr McKenna.
The report says that Mr McKenna, who had Down's Syndrome and Alzheimer's disease, was very ill when he was transferred to Leas Cross in October 2000 and that he missed a crucial medical appointment at Beaumont Hospital.
Mr McKenna died of blood poisoning at Beaumont Hospital 13 days after his admission to the north Dublin home.
The report, which was prepared by Martin Hynes, the former head of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, was submitted to the Health Service Executive last month.
The HSE says its legal adviser is considering the report.
