The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, is to meet his Colombian counterpart, Carolina Barco, in New York next week.
The ministers are expected to discuss requests filed by the Colombian government recently for the extradition of the three Irishmen convicted of training FARC rebels in Colombia.
The extradition papers are being examined by the Department of Justice.
The talks will take place on the fringes of next week's meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.
It is understood that the talks were requested by the Colombian side.
