The Irish Road Haulage Association has held a meeting with Minister of State Ivor Callely and Department of Finance officials to discuss the ongoing effect of surging oil prices on their business.
The IRHA says its members have seen a 60% increase in costs over the past three years.
It is calling for a duty rebate system for tax-compliant hauliers.
Spokesman Jimmy Quinn said the group had a fair hearing and believes there is a degree of goodwill in Cabinet towards its position.
