Officials in Iraq say the trial of the former dictator, Saddam Hussein, will begin next month.
He was captured by US troops in December 2003, eight months after the invasion of Iraq.
He could face about a dozen charges for alleged crimes, including a chemical attack on a Kurdish village and the invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
If convicted, the former President would face a possible death penalty.
