Gardaí and the National Safety Council have warned drivers to be extra vigilant on the roads this Bank Holiday weekend.

Gardaí and the National Safety Council have warned drivers to be extra vigilant on the roads this Bank Holiday weekend. 

33 people have been killed and 548 others injured over August Bank Holiday weekends since the year 2000.

The latest garda campaign will have a particular emphasis on drink driving.

There has been an increase of 16% in arrests for drink driving offences during the first six months of this year.
