Ahern calls for alternative energy drive

The Minister for Foreign Affairs has said high oil prices mean there is an urgent need to develop alternative energy sources such as wind and wave power in Ireland.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs has said high oil prices mean there is an urgent need to develop alternative energy sources such as wind and wave power in Ireland.

Dermot Ahern was speaking at the turning of the sod for the €1 million wind turbine project for the Dundalk Institute of Technology earlier today.

It is expected that the turbine will be providing 80% of the college's electricity by September.
