Two questioned over loyalist's murder
Monday, 4 July 2005 17:06Two men are being questioned by police in Northern Ireland about the murder of a loyalist in Belfast last week.
Jameson Lockhart was shot dead outside a pub in the east of the city on Friday.
Police have confirmed that detectives are questioning the two men, but did not disclose where they were arrested or where they are being held in custody.
The 25-year-old building contractor was sitting in the cab of his lorry outside a bar on the lower Newtownards Road when he was attacked by a gunman.
Mr Lockhart managed to move the lorry forward but the vehicle crashed into a lamppost and the gunman opened fire again, killing him.
After the shooting police said they had not established a firm motive for the murder but said that a loyalist feud could not be ruled out.
Mr Lockhart, who came from the Ballysillan area of north Belfast, is believed to have had links with the Loyalist Volunteer Force.
Rivals in the Ulster Volunteer Force are suspected by the police of carrying out the killing.
