Afghan government officials have said its forces along with US troops have killed more than 130 Taliban fighters in the south of the country.
An Interior Ministry official said the offensive was a big blow to militants whose aim is to disrupt parliamentary elections in September.
Most were killed by US helicopter gunships as they fled southern provinces.
