McDowell gets go ahead for defamation bill

The Minister for Justice's proposals for a new defamation bill have been given the go ahead by the Cabinet.

The Government has authorised Michael McDowell to draw up a general scheme for legislation in the area.

At the same time, a special working group is to be established to look into the protection of privacy.
