Shannon Airport - US plane lands safely

A US military aircraft has made an emergency landing at Shannon airport after the pilot was forced to shut down one of the plane's four engines.

The C130 Hercules transport plane was en route from a US Air Force base in Europe to the Canadian province of Newfoundland.

The plane had to dump thousands of litres of aviation fuel before being allowed to land.

There were 20 US military personnel on board the aircraft which is now being inspected by engineers.
