The Government's spending on suicide prevention and research has been criticised as totally inadequate.
During a special Dáil debate on the issue the Minister of State Tim O'Malley revealed that €2m per annum have been allocated towards a suicide prevention strategy.
Fine Gael's Dan Neville said the funding was totally inadequate and criticised the fact that so far, only eight of the 86 recommendations of the Government Task Force on Suicide Prevention, have been implemented.
