The gardaí are beginning a nationwide drink-driving enforcement operation this evening which will operate over the Bank Holiday weekend. The operation will end on Tuesday.
During each night of the operation gardaí will monitor individuals leaving licensed premises in every garda division.
Gardaí say checkpoints will be mounted and that driving behaviour will be monitored by officers in marked and unmarked patrol cars.
During the June Bank Holiday last year, five people died and 94 were injured on Irish roads.
