A US Army General has rejected claims by Amnesty International that military guards mistreated prisoners in Guantanamo Bay.

General Richard Myers has described an Amnesty International report on the detention camp as absolutely irresponsible.

The human rights group last week described Guantanamo Bay in Cuba as 'the Gulag of our time'.

Speaking on US television, General Myers said the camp was essentially a model facility and the US military treated detainees there humanely.
