The Turkish construction company, Gama, has said it has accepted recommendations from the Labour Court to end the industrial dispute there.

The Labour Court recommended that striking GAMA construction workers should receive €8,000 per year of service in respect of alleged underpayments of overtime.

The Labour Court also said that the payments would be in full and final discharge of the workers' claims for overtime.

The men had been on strike for the past seven weeks and yesterday voted to return to work under the terms of the Labour Court proposal.

No worker would receive less than €2,000 and the court has also awarded each worker an ex gratia payment of one month's salary on completion of their contracts here in Ireland.

SIPTU said the deal represented a pragmatic solution for the workers to bring an end to their fight for justice.
