Accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has resigned as auditor to Gama Construction Ireland.
Grounds for the resignation are set out in a letter to Gama's directors which PWC filed in the Companies' Registration Office last Monday.
The letter to the directors of Gama Construction Ireland said that PwC wanted to confirm the circumstances connected with its resignation, which it felt should be brought to the notice of members or creditors of the company.
It said it had sought information and explanations from the company in relation to alleged breaches of employment rights in respect of Turkish workers who are employees of Gama Turkey on secondment to the company.
The letter states that Gama Construction Ireland did not furnish PwC with all of the information and explanations which it sought.
PwC says that Gama Construction Ireland advised the accountancy firm that such information and explanations were not within the company's possession or knowledge and that these were matters for Gama Endustri in Turkey.
PricewaterhouseCoopers is one the largest accountancy firms in Ireland. A spokesperson for PwC said the company had no further comment at this time.
Gama has confirmed that it is in the process of appointing a new firm of auditors.
