L'Enfant wins Palme d'Or at Cannes

The Belgian drama 'L'Enfant' has won the coveted Palme d'Or prize at the Cannes film festival.

The Belgian drama 'L'Enfant' has won the coveted Palme d'Or prize at the Cannes film festival.

It beat 20 other films to receive the prestigious award at the annual event.

The film, directed by brothers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne, is a gritty urban tale of a young couple living on the breadline in France.

It was the second Palme d'Or for the Dardenne brothers.

Hollywood star, Tommy Lee Jones, in Cannes with his feature directorial debut 'The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada', won the best actor category.

Best actress went to Israel's Hanna Laslo in 'Free Zone', which also starred Natalie Portman.

US director Jim Jarmusch's 'Broken Flowers', starring Bill Murray, won the Grand Prix award - the runner-up for best picture.
