ChildLine launches North campaignThursday 12 May 2005 16.23
It has been revealed that traumatised children as young as five are ringing ChildLine in Northern Ireland to say they are suffering physical abuse at the hands of a parent.
The details came from the charity as it launches a new poster campaign aimed at getting its helpline number into the minds of more children.
The charity said that while 41% of calls it received from children aged between five and 11 in the Northern Ireland were about bullying, physical abuse came second, making up 15% of calls.
It is launching four new posters highlighting its helpline number and letting children know there is somewhere to turn for confidential help and support 24 hours a day.
