Gardaí have again been called to the site of a new ¤25 million superdump near the village of Kilconnell in Co Galway where local residents are protesting against a landfill project.
A group of about 15 local residents are continuing to walk on a right of way through the site. Their action has been hindering work on the construction of the dump which is being developed by the Greenstar waste management company.
The company says it acknowledges the right of way but it has sent solicitors' letters to the protestors asking them to cease blocking construction work and asking them to leave the site.
A farmer who has a right of way across part of the dump site has also served notice on Greenstar that he is about to begin separate legal proceedings against the company.
Gardaí have gone to the site and have taken the names of those involved in the protest.
The dump, which is expected to open later this year or early next year, will accept up to 100,000 tons of waste each year from the five Connacht counties.
