The man who was shot dead in Sligo yesterday has been named locally as 26-year-old Hughie McGinley of Connaughton Road, Sligo.

Members of the Garda Technical Bureau are continuing their examinations at the scene of the shooting and door-to-door inquiries are continuing in the town.

It is believed the incident may be related to a feud between two local families.

The victim was sitting in a van on Grattan Street in the town centre at around 3pm when a pillion passenger on a motorbike shot him.

He was brought to hospital by members of his family who arrived on the scene shortly afterwards, but died just before 10pm last night.

Gardaí are examining a motorbike, which was found burnt out in a quarry at Carrowmore, around 5km west of Sligo town.
