Man dies after Sligo shooting

A man who was shot in Sligo town centre this afternoon has died.

A man who was shot in Sligo town centre this afternoon has died.

The 26-year-old man passed away just before 10pm tonight in Sligo General hospital. 

It is expected that gardaí will now begin a murder enquiry.

The man was shot in Grattan Street in the town centre at around 3pm by a person on a motorbike.

The victim was brought to hospital by members of his family who arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting.

All shops on Grattan street were ordered to close. Gardaí also blocked off the city centre and forensic teams examined the scene.

It is believed the incident may be related to a feud between two local families.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
