Ahern voices doubts on Lansdowne

watch listen

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has said he still has doubts over the redevelopment of Lansdowne Road as the country's second sports stadium.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's This Week programme, he said he would rather see another world-class stadium being developed in Abbotstown.

Mr Ahern said he hoped Lansdowne Road would be a stadium of that standard.

However, he questioned whether it would have been better to develop the stadium in an open space such as Abbotstown as opposed to a very built up area.

But he said he was glad that there will two stadia in Ireland.
