President Mary McAleese met Emperor Akihito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo today.

On the second day of her official visit to Japan, President McAleese was a guest of honour at receptions hosted by the Irish community and the diplomatic and business communities in Tokyo. 

She is due to travel to Aichi and Kyoto tomorrow.
