The Railway Procurement Agency has said it is surprised and disappointed that the organisers of the St Patrick's Day parade in Dublin have continued to request that the overhead LUAS lines at O'Connell Street be taken down for the event.

The Agency said removing and reinstalling the lines would require a specialist contractor.

While taking down the wires would take five hours, reinstating the lines and associated cabling would take at least 10 hours as the lines would have to be tested.

They say it would mean there would be an interruption to the LUAS service for part of 16 March, all of St Patrick's Day and until noon on 18 March.

The RPA says it has been in discussion with the St Patrick's Day festival organisers since May 2003.
