Man awarded €370,000 over institutional abuse

A man who was abused by a care worker in an institution in Kilkenny when he was a child was awarded €370,000 damages in the High Court today.

A man who was abused by a care worker in an institution in Kilkenny when he was a child was awarded €370,000 damages in the High Court today.

Raymond Noctor, 45, of Leinster Crescent, Dublin Road, Co Carlow sued the Minister for Education, the State, the South Eastern Health Board and St Joseph's Industrial School in Kilkenny.

Liability was admitted for the gross indecency and assault perpetrated against Mr Noctor and the High Court was asked to assess damages only.

He was also awarded his costs although a stay was put on the costs order for 28 days in the event of an appeal.
