Lebanese govt bans planned protests

The Lebanese government has banned all demonstrations planned for tomorrow on the eve of rival rallies in Beirut, called by the opposition and parties supporting the pro-Syrian government.

The Lebanese government has banned all demonstrations planned for tomorrow on the eve of rival rallies in Beirut, called by the opposition and parties supporting the pro-Syrian government.

Government officials said the ban was designed to avoid trouble.

There have been growing protests against the Syrian military presence in Lebanon, following the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri in a bomb attack two weeks ago.
