A national helpline to assist people who believe they are due repayments for publicly-funded nursing home care is to be operated by the Health Service Executive from next Monday onwards.

The HSE says it will allow people or their families to register in advance, so that when the scheme is finalised by the Government, payments can be made quickly without the need to go through a legal process.

The executive has emphasised that no deadline has been set and people are under no obligation to register a claim now.

The helpline number is 1 800 77 77 37 and will operate from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday from 28 February.
