The majority of customers whose post was destroyed in a mail truck fire in Co Kildare will not be entitled to compensation, An Post has said.
Around 40,000 items of mail were destroyed in the fire on the N7 motorway between Monasterevin and Portlaoise on Wednesday.
The company says that compensation will only be paid for the 85 registered items and 61 SwiftPost items that were on the truck, which was on its way to a sorting office in Portlaoise.
An Post is urging people who may have posted letters in Kildare and west Wicklow on Wednesday to contact it for advice.
