Morris-related tapes stolen in robbery

Tapes containing material relevant to Garda Tina Fowley's involvement in the Morris Tribunal were taken in a burglary at her house in Letterkenny recently.

The solicitor representing Garda Tina Fowley has confirmed that tapes containing material relevant to her involvement in the Morris Tribunal were taken in a burglary at her house in Letterkenny recently.

Damien Tansey said that other valuables which would normally fall victim to a burglary were ignored, and only the taped material was stolen.

Gardaí in Letterkenny have confirmed that they are investigating the burglary at Garda Fowley's house, but would not comment further.

Mr Tansey described the burglary as bizarre and very disquieting, given the circumstances of a Tribunal being in full swing.

He also expressed concern that the burglary is being investigated by the Garda Division which is itself being investigated by the Morris Tribunal.

Garda Fowley is currently suspended from the force on an unrelated matter.

She is due to give evidence to the next module of the Morris Tribunal, which will deal with the arrest and detention of Frank McBrearty Jr and an alleged confession by him to the murder of Richie Barron.

It is claimed that the so-called confession is a forgery and Garda Fowley says that she saw a senior Garda practice Mr McBrearty's signature during his detention at Letterkenny Garda station.
