Aer Lingus Chief Executive Willie Walsh and two senior executives today left the airline.

The three had been expected to leave in May. However, controversy over their plans to set up a new airline resulted in them agreeing to go early.

In an interview with RTÉ News, Mr Walsh said the airline had no alternative but to continue with its job cuts and rationalisation to remain successful.
