The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed has said the implementation of the National Spatial Strategy and creation of taskforces to tackle job losses are two essential measures which need to be taken.
The organisation has said it is very concerned about the number of redundancies already announced this year.
Nearly 2,000 job losses have been announced to date in 2005. More than 600 job losses were announced by four different companies yesterday.
Eric Conroy, the general secretary of the organisation, told RTÉ News that critical economic mass must be spread around the country.
