Four members of the Defence Forces will be deployed to tsunami hit Sri Lanka on Monday.
They will operate with the United Nations Joint Logistics Co-ordination Centre in the capital Colombo.
The deployment follows consultation between the Minister for Defence, Willie O'Dea, and the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Jim Sreenan.
The four-man team consists of two transport and logistics specialists and two structural engineer officers.
The transport and logistics officers are tasked with the co-ordination and distribution of aid and equipment to the worst affected areas of the country.
