The aid agency, Concern, has said it has received enough funding for its efforts to assist those affected by the Indian Ocean disaster that struck on 26 December.

Tom Arnold, CEO of Concern, told RTÉ's News At One programme that almost €5m had been raised by the agency to date.

Meanwhile, a Limerick freight forwarding company is shipping 8,000 hygiene hampers to Sri Lanka in an entirely cost free operation.

Frank McNamara runs Eastway Logistics in Ballysimon and for the past week staff and other volunteers have been sorting and packing late into the night.

Essential items like toilet rolls, nappies and baby bottles were collected in response to an appeal by the company. Three 40-foot containers are being packed to capacity and shipped to Sri Lanka.
