Gardaí in Thailand believe they are close to identifying another Irish victim of the Asian tsunami disaster.

The Garda Press Office has said that no further details are available at present.

However, Aidan Coyle, the uncle of the Co Tyrone man, Connor Keightley, who has been missing in Thailand since the tidal wave struck, believes the family has found his body.

Mr Coyle said the family is awaiting confirmation from the Thai authorities that Mr Keightley's body was found.

It is understood it could be 24 to 36 hours before the family find out if his body has been found.

Mr Keightley, 31, from Cookstown, was on holiday at the time. His sisters, Michelle McCaughey and Dorina Duffin have been searching for their brother's body in Thailand.

They describe Connor as a jovial, loving person.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, met Mr Keightley's family earlier today.

Mr Ahern assured the family that the Irish and Thai governments were doing all in their power to help find Mr Keightley, who has not been seen since the tsunami struck on St Stephen's Day.

The minister said he had received assurances from the Thai government that bodies would be repatriated as quickly as possible if identified.

Mr Keightley's uncle, Damien Coyle, thanked the Department of Foreign Affairs and officials in Thailand for their help.

'They held our hands and our hearts in what has been a difficult time for the family', he said.

The family travels home to Co Tyrone tomorrow while Mr Ahern continues his tour of areas affected by the tsunami.

Thai authorities order DNA tests

Meanwhile, the Thai authorities have ordered DNA tests to be conducted on all the bodies recovered after the disaster, including those that have already been buried.

The interior ministry said further tests were necessary because initial identifications have proved unreliable.

Thailand has come under pressure from foreign governments to make sure that all victims are formally and correctly identified.
