The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, has received Government approval to draft a new bill to deal with tribunal costs.

Under the proposed bill, a more coherent provision for legal costs and the duration of investigations would be introduced.

Minister McDowell said both provisions would impact positively on the operation of the tribunals.

The new schedule of fees would apply to any newly-established tribunal or other form of inquiry, as well as to existing tribunals.

The bill, which was approved shortly before Christmas, will be introduced in the Dáil in the next session.
