Smoking has been banned in all government offices in Northern Ireland.

Civil servants returned this morning after the Christmas break to work in smoke-free buildings.

Doctors have welcomed the Northern Ireland civil service decision to ban smoking in government departments.

However, they said all employees should enjoy the same health rights.

They have urged the North's Health Minister, Angela Smith, to implement a widespread smoking ban similar to that in the Republic.
