The body of a man has been located on the McGillicuddy Reeks in Kerry.

It is believed to be he fell several hundred feet while descending from Carrantuohill.

The man was Irish, in his late 40s and was climbing alone.

His identity is not being released until his family have been informed.

Three people who witnessed the fall and raised the alarm are said to be in shock.

The body was located by members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team who were co-ordinating a separate search for Swedish climber Olof Jansson at the time.

Despite an effort involving more than 200 hundred people, seven search dogs and the coast guard helicopter, no trace of Mr Jansson has been found and that search has now been called off.
