Gardaí seek information over missing climber

The search for a Swedish hiker on the MacGillicuddy Reeks in Co Kerry has been called off for the night and will resume in the morning.

The search for a Swedish hiker on the MacGillicuddy Reeks in Co Kerry has been called off for the night and will resume in the morning.

There were more than 200 people involved in the search today which covered more than 150 square kilometres.

The Kerry mountain rescue team, which is co-ordinating the search, says more than 3,300 man hours have already gone into it.

Appeal for information

Gardaí searching for the hiker are appealing for information.

A man matching the description of 22-year-old Olas Jansenn was seen in the Blackvalley area between 3.30pm and 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.

He was wearing a blue climbing jacket and a dark green army-type rucksack.

Gardaí want to know if this was another hiker. If not, more focus will be placed on the area by the search and rescue teams.
