Almost 550 Colombian right-wing paramilitaries have handed in their weapons as part of an ongoing peace process with the government.

The fighters of Block Calima of the United Self-Defence Forces of Colombia (AUC) surrendered the weapons to the government peace commissioner.

The move paves the way for entry into programmes for reinsertion into civilian life.

By the end of the year 3,000 Block Calima members will be demobilised.

It is not yet known whether any of them will be brought to trial for crimes against humanity or drugs trafficking.
