More than 2,000 new childcare places in community-based and non-profit childcare organisations have been announced by the Government.
The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, said today he was allocating €35m to 51 groups to open new facilities under the Equal Opportunities childcare programme.
16 childcare groups will also receive funding for improvements to their facilities.
The funding is part of a €90m budget increase for the Equal Opportunities Childcare Programme, which aims to develop childcare facilities among community groups.
