The sister of John Carthy who was shot dead in the Abbeylara siege in April 2000 has said it is obvious things went wrong during the garda operation.
However, Marie Carthy said she is now happy that all questions surrounding the incident have been asked of the gardaí.
She was speaking to RTÉ News after the two-year long Barr Tribunal concluded its public hearings in Dublin today.
Ms Carthy said she was confident that the tribunal chairman, Mr Justice Robert Barr, would ensure the truth would now come out about John's death.
Earlier, lawyers for Mr Carthy's family told the tribunal that there was no lawfully established justification for the fourth shot fired at him at the end of the siege.
Senior Counsel Mr Patrick Gageby said there was independent evidence before the tribunal that Mr Carthy was crouching or falling when he was struck for the fourth time by the bullet which killed him.
Mr Gageby said the evidence of members of the Garda Emergency Response Unit who were at the scene did not tally with the independent impartial evidence of two pathologists.
Earlier, the Carthy family legal representative criticised the gardaí for their failure to get a solicitor for Mr Carthy when he requested it.
Mr Gageby accused the garda negotiator, Michael Jackson, of being wholly inflexible throughout the negotiations.
He also said there was a failure by senior gardaí involved in the siege to identify the solicitor Mr Carthy had requested.
He added that there was no sense of urgency among the garda authorities seeking out the medical advice of Mr Carthy's psychiatrist and his doctor.
The report on the Abbeylara shooting is expected before the end of June.
