13 Chinese miners were killed and three others are missing after a gas blast at a township-run coal mine in Liupanshui city, southwest Guizhou province, today.
33 people escaped, including four who were injured. Rescuers were still searching for the three missing miners.
And in Tongchuan city, Shaanxi province, officials said there was no hope for 166 missing miners following a gas explosion last Sunday.
Only 65 bodies have so far been recovered.
Up to 800 relatives and colleagues of the missing men marched to the office of the local township government and demanded to meet officials.
When no one came out, 40 to 50 of the protestors stormed the four-storey building, smashing the windows and breaking office furniture and equipment.
