The euro rose above $1.32 this morning for the first time in European trading.

It reached $1.3201 as the US currency buckled under the strain of imbalances in the US economy.

It was the third straight day this week of record highs as the market sold dollars on concerns about the large US current account and budget deficits.

Foreign exchange trading in Europe was expected to be low-key today due to the Thanksgiving holiday in the US.
