A campaign to save Bewley's cafés has been launched in Dublin city centre.

Two cafés on Grafton Street and Westmoreland Street are due to close next Tuesday.

The campaign is being led by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Michael Conaghan, and a number of other heritage campaigners.

This morning, around 100 people gathered outside the Grafton Street café, where they were entertained by actors and musicians.

Campbell Bewley Group Ltd said it warmly welcomed the meeting as an expression of support, but it said the closures follow careful consideration of all the circumstances over many years.
