Management and Unions at An Post have reached agreement on staffing and overtime levels to deal with the Christmas mail surge.

Details of the agreement are not yet known.

However, the threat of industrial action remains because members of the Communications Workers' Union are currently balloting for industrial action over pay and productivity.

The talks were chaired by Tom Pomphrett of the Labour Relations Commission.

Separately, CWU members are balloting for industrial action over the company's 5.35% pay offer in return for significant productivity concessions.
