An 18-year-old Kilkenny man has gone on trial in the Central Criminal Court accused of murdering a 36-year-old mother of two.

Mark Costigan from Aylesbury Road, Kilkenny, denies the murder of Christine Quinn, of Greenfields Road in Kilkenny, in December 2002.

Mrs Quinn was stabbed 35 times and the blade of the knife was left in her scalp.

The prosecution case is that the accused went from his school to the Quinn house, murdered Mrs Quinn, and then went on to a video store to purchase a video game.
