Councillors on South Dublin County Council have voted in favour of rezoning land to facilitate the construction of a controversial convention centre.

An Bord Pleanála refused permission to developer Jim Mansfield to build the €50m, 6,000 seat centre at his CityWest Hotel in Saggart. It said the 6,000-seater development would contravene the zoning of the site.

However, tonight's vote by the council means Mr Mansfield will be able to lodge a new planning application for the centre.
