A group opposed to the proposed splitting of the electorate in Co Leitrim has said tonight that it will mount a legal challenge to the move.

The Save Leitrim campaign was set up in opposition to the planned split of the county into two new constituencies of Sligo-North Leitrim and Roscommon-South Leitrim.

The campaign believes that the division of the county will deprive the people of Leirim of the chance to elect a local TD in future elections.
