US President George W Bush and his Democratic challenger Senator John Kerry have stepped up their attacks on each other over the missing explosives in Iraq.
Senator Kerry has accused the President of trying to avoid responsibility for the 380 tonnes of explosives that allegedly went missing from a protected site in Iraq.
The Democrats are already running new TV ads blaming the administration for failing to guard the explosives, and therefore the American people.
Forced to address the issue after two days of silence, President Bush is accusing Mr Kerry of making wild claims without knowing the facts. Mr Bush says the explosives may have been moved before the US troops reached the site in April 2003.
This row is taking place as the two men travel up to 2,000 miles a day to events in the dozen so-called swing states.
